The Hillsborough Heritage Museum
Fundraising Committee
presents
the 5th Annual
Timeless Tea House Tour
Mother's Day Weekend
Saturday, May 10th, 2008 1-5 PM
Our Mission is to
preserve and house the history of Hillsborough through the restoration
of an historically significant building so that today' generation and
future generations have a place to experience the past.
Our vision is to provide both a museum and a
top-notch facility for education and other cultural programs through
in-house and outreach activities. Additionally, our vision includes
creating a home for the Hillsborough Historical Society and a home for
fire memorabilia. This vision includes helping to make Hillsborough a
destination attraction for New Hampshire natives, vacationers, and
school children from all over New Hampshire and beyond.
Our history: The old fire station's construction
was approved at town meeting in 1870 and was completed in 1875.
The building served as the town's fire station and police station until
it was sold in 1968 to private owners. After a year long effort of
the Hillsborough Fireman's association and the Hillsborough Historical
Society working towards purchasing and preserving this tradition filled
building, voters again agreed to purchase the old building on March 13,
2001 at town meeting and work began.
Our goal
has been
an ambitious one - to fully refurbish the exterior and the interior
as well as furnish the interior of the old firehouse primarily using
donated funds, materials and services. To date we have completed
all work on the exterior including a new roof, new energy efficient
windows, new paint and a new handicap accessible entrance. On the
interior the first floor is complete including new insulation,
restructuring with steel support beams, new floor with radiant heat and
two new bathrooms. The second floor offices have also been
completed. Finally we hope to be able to gain public access to the
second floor meeting room with the installation of an elevator as well
as enhancing the use with modest kitchen facilities. This meeting
room will offer our community much needed space for programs, meetings,
educational and cultural activities.
